Kinetics and Isotherm Study of Ceftriaxone Removal Using Functionalized Biochar Combined with Photocatalysis

open access: yesMolecules
The increasing presence of antibiotics such as cephalosporins in wastewater represents a significant environmental risk. These compounds are excreted in large quantities, and conventional wastewater treatment plants are often ineffective at their removal.

Staphylococcus aureus Augments Epithelial Skin Barrier Damage Through T Cell Activation in Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Staphylococcus aureus, commonly colonising CTCL patients, augments skin barrier dysfunction. Staphylococcal enterotoxins induce T‐cell release of barrier‐repressing cytokines (IL‐4, IL‐13, IL‐22, OSM). Cytokine signalling drives JAK‐dependent downregulation of filaggrin and loricrin in keratinocytes. Antibiotic‐mediated eradication of S. aureus induces

The Challenges and Benefits of an Open Anterior Repair of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias: A Cohort Study

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Recurrent inguinal hernia repair presents unique clinical challenges. While minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is often preferred, open anterior mesh repair is a valid approach particularly when requiring mesh, suture, or tack removal. This study evaluates the outcomes of a small incision open anterior mesh repair, including foreign

Infectious bacterial keratitis management in a Swedish region: Risk factors, treatment and time‐to‐resolution

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To report treatment patterns, time‐to‐resolution (TTR) and aetiologies of bacterial keratitis (BK) infections treated in a specialized hospital‐based cornea clinic in Sweden. Methods Retrospective study based on electronic health records screened during the period 2010–2019. The study included only culture‐confirmed cases of BK.

Generation of equine‐specific local antibiograms: reproductive tract of mares and fillies in Western Australia

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Introduction Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) may lead to increasing inefficacy and treatment failure of bacterial infections in the future. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programmes are critical to ensuring the continued efficacy of available antimicrobials.

D‐amino acid oxidase as a chemogenetic tool for spatiotemporally controlled hydrogen peroxide production: The oxygen connection

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose D‐amino acid oxidase (DAO) has been developed as a chemogenetic tool, to precisely manipulate redox levels in tissues and cells by generating H2O2 in the presence of D‐amino acids. The enzyme's significant oxygen consumption during H2O2 production may influence cellular oxygen levels.
