Distance Determination with Cepheid Variables

1999
Cepheid variables have long formed the backbone of the extra-galactic distance scale. The HST has greatly increased the range of Cepheid studies, making many more galaxies available for calibrating secondary distance indicators. This makes the calibration of the Cepheid period-luminosity relations, and investigations of systematic uncertainties, of ...

Reddening free distance determination via Cepheid variables

Planetary and Space Science, 1995
Abstract A long-term project initiated four years ago with the aim of establishing a consistent set of distances founded on ground-based photometry of Cepheid variables in the nearest late-type galaxies in the Local Group, or just beyond it is reported on.

Distances and Kinematics of Classical Cepheids

2003
The Hipparcos Catalogue supplies high precise astrometric observations of stars. The measurements of trigonometric parallaxes for the classical Cepheids provides the best opportunity for reexamining the PL relation. Combining proper motions and radial velocities, we have studied the Cepheid kinematics on the basis of 3D-model.
