Real-time slurry characteristic analysis during ball milling using vibration data

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2022
The characteristics of an internal slurry were analyzed during ball milling, which is commonly utilized in ceramic processing. We used a device with a capacity of 50 L because this is the size employed in industries and built a circulation system to ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Effect of PVP Intermediate Layer on the Properties of SAPO 34 Membrane

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2012
SAPO 34 zeolite membranes were prepared on a tubular mullite support. Before membrane preparation, the support surfaces were coated with seed crystals. Seeds particles were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Ceramic Powders for Advanced Ceramics: What are Ideal Ceramic Powders for Advanced Ceramics?

open access: yesTransactions of the Materials Research Society of Japan, 2010
One of the most important factors for advanced ceramic preparation is the nature of powders. This article is a review and overview of powder preparation and properties and explains ideal powders for advanced ceramics. In addition, hydrothermal powders that are close to ideal powders are described along with hydrothermal processing.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Multilayer Silicon Carbide Composite Material Technology for High-Temperature Concentrated Solar-Thermal Power Components

open access: yesSolarPACES Conference Proceedings
In 2012, the U.S Department of Energy defined aggressive targets to achieve lower component costs and higher system efficiencies for concentrated solar-thermal power (CSP), and this, in turn, has led to the exploration of technology options that can ...
