Reusing coffee waste in manufacture of ceramics for construction

Advances in Applied Ceramics, 2013
This paper aims at studying the influence of different clay/coffee waste mixtures in structural ceramics by incorporating different amounts of spent coffee grounds as an additive. Clay paste with 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt-% of coffee waste was used to mould clay bodies, which were then fired at the temperatures of 900, 1000 and 1100°C.

Ceramic bodies with rock processing residues (RPR) for constructing materials

Waste Disposal & Sustainable Energy, 2020
The rock processing residue (RPR) waste is used for part of the ceramic products. The present work deals with the unused waste useful for making ceramic materials and save the area and the dump space. The residues are initially analyzed with the chemical and spectroscopic method. The residues are mixed with clay of proportions 0–50 wt% in steps of 10%.

Oxygen Electrode Surface Constructing for Reversible Protonic Ceramic Electrochemical Cells

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2023
Reversible protonic ceramic electrochemical cells (R-PCECs) have great potential for energy conversion and storage at low-intermediate temperatures (400-700oC), which could enable the conversion of H2O into H2 in electrolysis (EL) mode, and inversely the production of electricity in fuel cell (FC) mode.

Construction of R-curves for ceramics

Strength of Materials, 1992
A method of investigating R-curves in ceramics is described and results of testing it are given. Nonlinearity and hysteresis in the load-deflection diagram and residual deflection of specimens after their unloading were detected for specimens with a crack. It is suggested that friction between walls of the crack is the cause of this.

Displaced Matter Aesthetics: Constructing Effectors for Non-Extractive Ceramic Ornament

In Commons, 2023
The discipline of architecture and its prevailing ornament construction aesthetics has become overly reliant on the subtractive digital fabrication process, wherein desired geometry is excavated from a procured material block. Notably, subtraction is not deletion, in procedures such as CNC milling – the ‘subtracted’ matter, is neither ‘destroyed’ nor ...

Low-melting non-frit glazes for construction and artistic ceramics

Glass and Ceramics, 2013
Low-melting non-frit glazes with firing temperature 950 – 1000°C were obtained in the system datolite–perlite–cullet. The conditions under which high-quality coatings are formed were determined: pre-firing datolite and perlite, B2O3/Al2O3 > 2.5 in the glaze and slip ultradispersity.

An ion-source of ceramic construction suitable for ion-implantation

Vacuum, 2001
Abstract A simple low voltage arc-discharge type ion-source for gases and solids is described which is capable of delivering ion currents ∼100 mA at 25 kV, extraction voltage. The source is of straightforward construction and is characterised by a ceramic housing which has superior degassing characteristics for commercially available boron nitride ...
