Wide therapeutic time window for nimesulide neuroprotection in a model of transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Results from several studies indicate that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is involved ischemic brain injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of the selective COX-2 inhibitor nimesulide on cerebral infarction and ...

The prevention of cerebral infarction.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1995

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Clinical risk factors predictive of thrombotic stroke with large cerebral infarction

open access: yesNeurology International, 2019
Large cerebral infarctions have high morbidity and mortality. Patients with large cerebral infarctions may have recurrent ischemia as high as 8.1% within 7 days; highest among other types of strokes.

Contralateral cortical role on functional recovery in a rat model of hemiplegia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The role of the contralateral cerebral cortical plasticity in functional recovery after cerebral infarction is controversial. To clarify this role, we made a second contralateral cortical infarction after recovery from the first cerebral infarction.

Immunomodulation With Local, Sustained Delivery of Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Activating Polypeptide Results in Improved Functional Recovery in Stroke‐Injured Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The tissue and functional benefits are demonstrated with local, sustained delivery of an anti‐inflammatory peptide, pituitary adenylate cyclase‐activating polypeptide (PACAP), for stroke treatment in a mouse model. Prolonged PACAP treatment modulated astrocyte and microglia toward pro‐reparative phenotypes, enhanced neuroprotection and preservation of ...
