The effect of tourniquet deflation on hemodynamics and regional cerebral oxygen saturation in aged patients undergoing total knee replacement surgery [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2012
BackgroundInflation and deflation of a pneumatic tourniquet used in total knee replacement surgery induces various changes in patient's hemodynamic and metabolic status, which may result in serious complications, especially in aged patients.

Blood Glucose and Lactate Levels and Cerebral Oxygenation in Preterm and Term Neonates—A Systematic Qualitative Review of the Literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2020
Background: Cerebral oxygenation monitored non-invasively by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is of increasing interest in neonatal care. Cerebral oxygenation is determined by cerebral oxygen delivery and cerebral oxygen consumption.

Effect of gelatin-polysuccinat on cerebral oxygenation and microcirculation in a porcine haemorrhagic shock model

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, 2018
Background During early treatment of haemorrhagic shock maintenance of cerebral and end-organ oxygen supply by fluid resuscitation is mandatory. Gelatin-polysuccinat (GP) recently regained attention despite a still unclear risk profile and widely unknown

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Noninvasive Optical Quantification of Cerebral Venous Oxygen Saturation in Humans [PDF]

open access: yesAcademic Radiology, 2014
Cerebral oxygen extraction, defined as the difference between arterial and venous oxygen saturations (SaO2 and SvO2), is a critical parameter for managing intensive care patients at risk for neurological collapse. Although quantification of SaO2 is easily performed with pulse oximetry or moderately invasive arterial blood draws in peripheral vessels ...

Memristive Motion‐Streak Neuron for Spatiotemporal Multiple Object Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes motion‐streak neuron hardware using amorphous In–Ga–Zn–O optoelectronic memristors and dynamic memristors for spatiotemporal multiple‐object detection. The motion streak neuron array processes optical and electrical stimuli, allowing speed‐dependent filament relaxation to encode motion trajectories.

Measurement of cerebral venous oxygenation with quantitative susceptibility mapping after subarachnoid hemorrhage: A pilot study

open access: yesJournal of Central Nervous System Disease
Objective We measured cerebral venous oxygenation after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) to explore its relationship with cognitive function. Methods Twenty participants, including 10 patients with
