Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunts

Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, 1994
The evaluation of hydrocephalic shunts is a common problem seen in emergency departments. The emergency medicine practitioner must be aware of the various types of apparatus, the functional considerations of the shunt, and the potential complications of obstruction. Shunt malfunction, either from obstruction or infection, can be life-threatening, and a

Choline in cerebrospinal fluid

Life Sciences, 1967
Abstract The method of Bligh for determining plasma choline has been applied to the measurement of choline in cerebrospinal fluid. Values obtained for free choline are approximately one tenth of those which have been reported for plasma. Barbiturate anesthesia results in a decrease in CSF choline.

Extracellular and cerebrospinal fluids

Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 1993
SummaryThe mechanism of formation of extracellular fluid is first described, followed by an explanation of the relation between osmotic force, reflection coefficient and molecular size. The possible mechanism of brain extracellular fluid formation is then proposed in relation to the restriction offered by the blood‐brain barrier. The functions and ...
