Spontaneous Spinal Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks
Cephalalgia, 2008Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is an uncommon but not rare cause of new onset daily persistent headaches. A delay in diagnosis is the norm. Women are affected more commonly than men and most are in the fifth or sixth decade of life. The underlying cause is a spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks in Orbital and Lacrimal Surgery
Survey of Ophthalmology, 2008Cerebrospinal fluid leakage is an uncommon but significant complication of orbital and rarely lacrimal surgery which may have serious consequences including death. In a retrospective review of four orbital units, we report an incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leak (diagnosed intraoperatively) during exenteration, orbital decompression, and ...

Endoscopic Management of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks
American Journal of Rhinology, 2002To examine the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea, a cohort of 36 patients treated between 1993 and 2000 were examined to consider the role of imaging and other diagnostic tests such as the presence of β-transferrin in nasal secretion. The etiology of the condition was considered and was found to be congenital

Sphenoid Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak
2021Management of sphenoid CSF leaks is complicated in the setting of prior surgery and radiation. Active CSF leak in the presence of recalcitrant sinus infections, cranial base osteomyelitis, and life-threatening bleeding offers additional complexity to the hierarchy of treatment strategies.

Postoperative Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1964Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leak has occurred in sufficient magnitude to require secondary surgical closure in five cases (cases 8, 25, 50, 51, and 53). In several other cases there has been minor spinal fluid leak for several days postoperatively but spontaneous resolution has occurred.

Conservative Management of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks
Otolaryngologic Clinics of North AmericaCerebrospinal fluid leaks are a complex clinical challenge with variable causes and management. Conservative therapy focuses on lowering intracranial pressure through bed rest, sinus precautions, antiemetics, bowel regimens, and lumbar drainage. Leaks persisting beyond 1 week may require surgical repair due to meningitis risk. Iatrogenic, postoperative,
