Cerium reduction at the interface between ceria and yttria-stabilised zirconia and implications for interfacial oxygen non-stoichiometry

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2014
Epitaxial CeO2 films with different thickness were grown on Y2O3 stabilised Zirconia substrates. Reduction of cerium ions at the interface between CeO2 films and yttria stabilised zirconia substrates is demonstrated using aberration-corrected scanning ...

Toward Efficient and Reliable Chemical Upgrading Using Solid Oxide Electrochemical Reactors, Mechanisms, Challenges, and Design Principles

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 27, 14 May 2026.
Solid oxide electrochemical reactors (SOERs) offer a compelling pathway for coupling renewable electricity with chemical manufacturing, but their real application is still limited by low efficiency and instability. This review systematically summarizes SOER reaction mechanisms, performance‐limiting factors, and recent progress toward high‐efficiency ...

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Transition of Ion Diffusion Mechanism in BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.1Yb0.1O3‐δ Electrolyte Under Real Operating Conditions

open access: yesSmall Methods, Volume 10, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
Ion diffusion in the benchmark BZCYYb electrolyte is revealed to dynamically transition under realistic PCFC operating conditions. As temperature decreases, the electrolyte shifts from oxygen‐ion to proton‐dominant conduction via grain‐boundary hydrogenation and in situ hydration, even without external humidification.
