Influence of Nanoscale Surface Arrangements on the Oxygen Transfer Ability of Ceria–Zirconia Mixed Oxide

open access: yesInorganics, 2020
Ceria-based materials, and particularly CeO2–ZrO2 (CZ) solid solutions are key ingredient in catalyst formulations for several applications due to the ability of ceria to easily cycling its oxidation state between Ce4+ and Ce3+.

Mechanical and Electrical Characterization of 8YSZ-ScCeSZ Ceramics

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2023
The effects of small amounts (up to 5 wt.%) of scandia- and ceria-stabilized zirconia on the electrical conductivity, and the elastic modulus and hardness of yttria-stabilized zirconia were investigated by impedance spectroscopy and nanoindentation tests,

Influence of roughness on initial in vitro response of cells to Al2O3/Ce-TZP nanocomposite

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2021
Al2O3/Ce-tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (TZP) nanocomposite was synthesized by a colloidal processing route and sintered in air atmosphere. Sandblasting treatment was made to alumina toughened zirconia (ATZ) nanocomposite in order to evaluate the ...

Revealing the Giant Electromechanical Effects in Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia Single Crystal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Giant electromechanical responses are uncovered in yttria‐stabilized zirconia single crystal (SC‐YSZ), exhibiting pronounced orientation dependence. The giant electrostriction and piezoelectricity are directly correlated with the long‐range transport kinetics of oxygen vacancies.

Supported nano gold as a recyclable catalyst for green, selective and efficient oxidation of alcohol using molecular oxygen

open access: yesOrbital: The Electronic Journal of Chemistry, 2011
The myth that gold cannot act as a catalyst has been discarded in view of recent studies, which have demonstrated the high catalytic efficiency of pure nano-gold and supported nano-gold catalysts.

Phonon‐Driven Tetrahedral Tilts Enable Ultralow Bulk Thermal Expansion and Interstitial Oxide‐Ion Migration in Phenacite Solid Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a design paradigm of phonon‐driven negative‐thermal‐expansion (NTE) flexible framework that exploits the intrinsic lattice flexibility of NTE frameworks to simultaneously suppress thermal expansion and activate oxide‐ion conduction, offering a promising strategy to mitigate TEC mismatch in solid‐state ionic devices.

Phase separation and surface segregation in ceria–zirconia solid solutions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2011
Using a combination of density functional theory calculations and statistical mechanics, we show that a wide range of intermediate compositions of ceria–zirconia solid solutions are thermodynamically metastable with respect to phase separation into Ce-rich and Zr-rich oxides.
