Subsurface Stabilization of Interstitial Pt Atoms on CeO2(111): Rethinking Single‐Atom Catalyst Architectures

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 25, 15 June 2026.
By combining polarization‐resolved IRRAS on atomically flat CeO2(111) single crystals with quantitative XPS and DFT calculations, we identify an unusual subsurface interstitial configuration of Pt single atoms that gives rise to a previously unobserved, blue‐shifted CO vibrational mode.

MnCl2‐Catalyzed Photochemical Functionalization of Unactivated C(sp3)H Bonds

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
A photochemical method enables the activation of alkanes, utilizing cheap and abundant MnCl2 as the photocatalyst. Alkenylation and alkylation reactions are performed, affording the desired products in good yields. Activation of inert C(sp3)H bonds is of great importance in organic synthesis, since it can functionalize unreactive molecules, such as ...

Theory Guided Fine‐Tune of Strain Effects in Pt Ternary Alloy via Rare Earth Templating: Achieving High Performance PEMFCs Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 35, 23 June 2026.
Theory‐guided strain engineering and rare‐earth templating are combined to create Pt5(Ce)Co@Pt multilayer nanoparticles with a Pt5Co‐like sublayer that fine‐tunes *OH binding near the ORR volcano optimum. The resulting catalyst delivers exceptional mass activity and remarkable long‐term PEMFC durability, revealing a strategy for designing highly active

In Situ Regenerative Adduct Assisted p‐Type Doping of Organic Semiconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 34, 17 June 2026.
An in situ regenerative adduct‐assisted (IRAA) doping strategy is introduced for p‐type doping of organic semiconductors. A regenerating adduct serves as the dopant, enabling highly efficient doping with a choice of counterions. The generality of this approach provides a scalable route to dope a wide range of hole‐transport materials with high thermal ...
