Phytosociology in areas of the Brazilian Cerrado: Cerrado stricto sensu, municipality of Porto Nacional, State of Tocantins

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Biological Sciences, 2020
Phytosociological studies are essential for the elaboration of conservation strategies for the Cerrado. The goal of this study was to survey two areas of cerrado stricto sensu: Fazenda Canaã and Fazenda Providência, located in the Municipality of Porto Nacional, State of Tocantins. There were 10 plots of 100 m2 allocated in each area.

Fire‐induced disturbances in Malpighiaceae sequential flowering: Implications for pollination services and plant reproductive success

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 41, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our study demonstrates that fire has a strong influence on flowering phenology and reproductive dynamics in Malpighiaceae species from the Brazilian Cerrado. Specifically, fire triggered an earlier onset of flowering and promoted a more synchronous and widespread blooming, resulting in a temporary surge in floral resource availability. This increase in

Beyond Dung: Attractiveness of Native and Exotic Fruits to Dung Beetles in the Brazilian Savanna

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Dietary breadth enhances animal resilience in environments where resources are unpredictable or declining, enabling species to exploit alternative food sources when primary ones are scarce. In dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeinae), frugivory is an increasingly recognised foraging strategy, particularly in tropical regions experiencing ...

Functional Guilds Mediate the Effects of Woody Encroachment on the Ground Layer in the Brazilian Cerrado

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 37, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
After 60 years without fire, as tree biomass increases, the Cerrado vegetation is still losing biodiversity. Exploring what happens at the ground layer, we found a strong functional bias in the battle among species to survive in the shade. There are clear losers and winners, the last driving the plant community to a forest structure, composition, and ...

Floristic of the herbaceous and subshrub layer of a moist grassland in Brasília, Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A riqueza florística do estrato herbáceo-arbustivo de campo limpo úmido, uma vegetação campestre do bioma Cerrado, é pouco conhecida, embora as ervas e subarbustos sejam o maior componente na vegetação de Cerrado.
