INCOMPLETE OSSIFICATION OF THE ATLAS IN DOGS WITH CERVICAL SIGNS

Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound, 2009
Osseous defects affecting the atlas were identified in computed tomography and magnetic resonance images of five dogs with cervical signs including pain, ataxia, tetraparesis, or tetraplegia. Osseous defects corresponded to normal positions of sutures between the halves of the neural arch and the intercentrum, and were compatible with incomplete ...

Why Atlas, why not Heracles: Reflections on the rheumatoid cervical spine

Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, 2005
Rheumatoid involvement of the 24 joints of the cervical spine leads to prominent changes in the occipito-atlanto-axial area. Eight different subtypes of such changes are recognized, depicted, and defined. The frequencies of these 8 subtypes in rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritides are tabulated.

Cervical Myelopathy Due to a Hypoplastic Atlas

Neurosurgery Quarterly, 2008
Congenital hypoplasia of the atlas is a rare cause of cervical myelopathy. We report a case of a 30-year-old man with cervical myelopathy caused by spinal stenosis at the level of the atlas associated with a hypoplastic but complete posterior arch of C1.

Cervical cord compression due to a hypoplastic atlas

Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, 2001
✓ The authors report the case of a 66-year-old man with progressive, nontraumatic, C-1 cord compression who presented with a complete but hypoplastic atlas. They review six cases found in the literature. Symptoms usually develop in the late adulthood; the sagittal diameter of the canal measures 10 mm or less.

Atlas hypoplasia as a cause of high cervical myelopathy

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1993
✓ A high cervical myelopathy due to atlas hypoplasia is described in a 56-year-old man; the condition caused marked segmental compression of the spinal cord. A remarkable neurological recovery followed decompressive laminectomy of the atlas and adjacent regions. The authors discuss the embryology and etiology of this anomaly.

Magnetic resonance imaging atlas of the cervical spine musculature

Clinical Anatomy, 2016
The anatomy of the cervical spine musculature visible on magnetic resonance (MR) images is poorly described in the literature. However, the correct identification of individual muscles is clinically important because certain conditions of the cervical spine, for example whiplash associated disorders, idiopathic neck pain, cervical nerve root avulsion ...

Congenital hypoplasia of the arch of the atlas with abnormal segmentation of the cervical spine

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1994
We describe a 53-year-old Japanese woman with absence of the posterior arch of the atlas. Computed tomography revealed that the residual posterior fragment which was displaced to the right side does not correspond to a rare ossification center in the midline and that there was no clear mass of the posterior arch except for a small fragment.

Cervical Myelopathy Accompanied With Hypoplasia of the Posterior Arch of the Atlas

Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques, 2009
Case reports of 2 patients having cervical myelopathy accompanied with idiopathic hypoplasia of the posterior arch of the atlas.A standard for the sagittal inside diameter (SID) of the vertebral foramen of the atlas was determined for use in the diagnosis of hypoplasia.
