Spontaneous Fracture of Atlas of Cervical Spine Affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis
Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, 1985A case of spontaneous fracture of the atlas in a 67-year-old woman who had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for more than 20 years is described. ATLAS-AXIS DISLOCATION FOLLOWING CERVICAL INFECTION
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1942Dislocation of the axis on the atlas is often traumatic (frequently with fracture of the odontoid process and resultant damage to the cord), but it may also occur as a sequel to cervical infections. [Unstable Jefferson variant atlas fractures: an unrecognized cervical injury].
Zhonghua wai ke za zhi [Chinese journal of surgery], 1996Nine cases of unstable Jefferson variant atlas fractures were treated with nonoperative external immobilization between 1989 and 1993. All of them were studied by plain films and CT scans. Seven cases had three breaks of the atlas ring. One case had unilateral anterior arch fracture, associated transverse ligament tear and quadriplegia.

Unstable Jefferson variant atlas fractures: an unrecognized cervical injury.
AJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1992We retrospectively reviewed the plain films and CT scans of 11 unstable atlas fractures from a series of 72 atlas fractures to better characterize these injuries and to determine if the correct diagnosis could have been made. These 11 atlas fractures were unstable because either the anterior bony ring was disrupted (six cases), the posterior ...
