Cervical ripening with oral misoprostol at term
International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 2003AbstractObjectives: To determine the efficacy of 200 μg single dose oral misoprostol as a cervical priming agent at term. Methods: In this double‐blind randomized trial, 156 pregnant women requiring induction of labor with gestational age of 37–42 weeks and Bishop score ≤5, were randomized to receive either 200 μg of misoprostol or a placebo, orally ...

Precocious Cervical Ripening and Preterm Labor
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1986A group of 8303 women was studied to determine the timing of cervical ripening. It was confirmed that these signs of cervical change can be observed several weeks before preterm births. The precocious signs of external ripening can be recognized during a vaginal examination and may be useful in predicting preterm labor.

Outpatient term preinduction cervical ripening with mechanical agents has been associated with reduced length of stay, decreased cesarean delivery rates, low maternal and neonatal complications, and increased incidence of vaginal delivery within 24 hours. This study aimed to demonstrate equivalent efficacy between synthetic hygroscopic dilators and the ...

Methods of cervical ripening and labor induction
Journal of Nurse-Midwifery, 1997The overall rate of induction of labor in the United States in 1993 was 134 per 1,000 live births, or over 527,000 of the four million births that occur annually in the United States. Indications for labor induction include postdate pregnancy, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), and maternal medical complications, such as diabetes mellitus and ...
