A CFD-DEM-FEM framework for sediment-laden free-surface flow interacting with flexible structures
Coastal and offshore protective structures are often loaded by free-surface flows that carry sediment. This study develops a three-phase numerical framework that couples Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the Discrete Element Method (DEM), and the ...

Design and Experimental Testing of a Centrifugal Wheat Strip Seeding Device
Wheat sowing has the characteristics of wide and short sowing periods, and there are situations in which the suitable sowing period is missed. In order to meet the needs of high-speed sowing, a centrifugal wheat strip seeding device was designed, the ...

Development of a dynamic external CFD and BES coupling framework for application of urban neighbourhoods energy modelling [PDF]
© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Current building energy models are weak at representing the interactions between neighbourhoods of buildings in cities. The effect of a neighbourhood on the local microclimate is complex, varying from one building to another, meaning ...

Surrogate‐Optimized Flow‐Guided Miniature Condenser for Rapid Exhaled Glucose Detection
A surrogate‐optimized miniature condenser guides humid exhaled flow toward cold surfaces to accelerate exhaled breath condensate collection. By improving vapor access within a compact footprint, the design increases sample yield. This enables post‐collection enrichment and rapid colorimetric glucose detection from dilute exhaled biomarkers within a 5 ...

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.

A coupled CFD-DEM model for sand production in oil wells
During the oil recovery a hole is drilled, the sandstone is left unsupported next to the cavity and disloged sand grains can enter the oil recovery system. This process is called sand production and several problems may arise due to that process, as clogging up of the well or damage to the well equipment.

Single‐cell longitudinal profiling reveals that androgen‐deprivation therapy induces a DPT+ fibroblast‐complement axis that suppresses macrophage inflammation and drives CD8+ T cell exhaustion in prostate cancer. Concurrently, resistant epithelial subpopulations persist and engage TSPAN1‐ and NRXN1‐mediated programs promoting CRPC and neuroendocrine ...

ABSTRACT The demand for off‐the‐shelf biocompatible bone substitutes has driven the development of numerous independent in vitro technologies to generate products resembling physiological tissues. Due to technical challenges and overly simplified cultivation approaches/niches, the end‐products are often uniformly shaped and inferior to native bone ...

Development of 6-way CFD-DEM-FEM momentum coupling interface using partitioned coupling approach
Fluid-particle-structure interactions (FPSI) govern a wide range of natural and engineering phenomena, from landslides to erosion in abrasive water jet cutting nozzles. Despite the importance of studying FPSI, existing numerical frameworks often simplify
