Experiments and Computational Fluid Dynamics on Vapor and Gas Cavitation for Oil Hydraulics

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 147-157, January 2023., 2023
A computational fluid dynamics cavitation model for vapor and gas cavitation in hydraulic oil is presented, parameterized, and validated. For numerous operating points, cavitation in a realistic valve geometry is visualized using shadowgraphs and high‐speed cameras. Vapor and gas cavitation are experimentally separated by complete degassing of the oil.

Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Implicit Hybrid Quantum-Classical CFD Calculations using the HHL Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Implicit methods are attractive for hybrid quantum-classical CFD solvers as the flow equations are combined into a single coupled matrix that is solved on the quantum device, leaving only the CFD discretisation and matrix assembly on the classical device. In this paper, an implicit hybrid solver is investigated using emulated HHL circuits.

On the strong scalability of maritime CFD [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Technology, 2017
Since 2004, supercomputer growth hasbeen constrained by energy efficiency rather than raw hardware speeds. Tomaintain exponential growth of overall computing power, a massive growth inparallelization is under way. To keep up with these changes, computationalfluid dynamics (CFD) must improve its strong scalability – its ability tohandle lower cells-per ...

Optimizing Metamaterial Inverse Design with 3D Conditional Diffusion Model and Data Augmentation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A generative AI model, the 3D conditional diffusion model (3D‐CDM), is introduced to enhance the inverse design of voxel‐based metamaterials. A data augmentation technique based on topological perturbation expands the dataset, further improving generation quality and accuracy.

NNPred: A Predictor Library to Deploy Neural Networks in Computational Fluid Dynamics software [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
A neural-networks predictor library has been developed to deploy machine learning (ML) models into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes. The pointer-to-implementation strategy is adopted to isolate the implementation details in order to simplify the implementation to CFD solvers.

Imaging Photonic Resonances within an All‐Dielectric Metasurface via Photoelectron Emission Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Photonic resonances within a dielectric metasurface are investigated using photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM) and finite‐difference time‐domain simulations. An electron inelastic mean free path of 35 ± 10 nm is extracted from comparisons between microscopy and simulations.
