PBS‐based biodegradable composites were compounded with neat, surface‐modified flax fiber to develop sustainable, water‐repellent, mechanically, and thermally stable bio‐based packaging material. ABSTRACT Applying surface modification routes to natural fibers is a practical option for solving the incompatibility problem in polymeric composites.

CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM IN CHAETOMIUM GLOBOSUM [PDF]
SummaryExtracts of Chaetomium globosum contained an unstable, NAD‐dependent mannitol dehydrogenase, oxidizing mannitol to fructose. The enzyme had a low affinity for its substrates but showed high activity in vitro. Compared to fructose, exogenous mannitol was poorly utilized by the fungus.

Experimental methods for studying amyloid cross‐interactions
Abstract Interactions between amyloid proteins represent the cornerstone of various pathogenic pathways, including prion conversion and co‐development of distinct kinds of systemic amyloidosis. Various experimental methodologies provide insights into the effects of such cross‐interactions on amyloid self‐assembly, which range from acceleration to ...

A Peroxygenase from Chaetomium globosum Catalyzes the Selective Oxygenation of Testosterone [PDF]
AbstractUnspecific peroxygenases (UPO, EC 1.11.2.1) secreted by fungi open an efficient way to selectively oxyfunctionalize diverse organic substrates, including less‐activated hydrocarbons, by transferring peroxide‐borne oxygen. We investigated a cell‐free approach to incorporate epoxy and hydroxyl functionalities directly into the bulky molecule ...

Commodity risk assessment of Berberis thunbergii plants from the UK
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘high risk plants, plant products and other objects’. Taking into account the available scientific information, including the technical information provided by ...
