CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM IN CHAETOMIUM GLOBOSUM [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 1971
SummaryThe uptake of the hexoses, glucose, fructose and mannose, by resting mycelium of Chaetomium globosum results in synthesis of the reserve carbohydrates, trehalose and glycogen, which form, respectively, 5–7% and 12–23% of the dry mycelium. Glucose is the only free reducing sugar present in detectable amounts. The presence of galactose and mannose

Anticancer Compounds from Chaetomium globosum [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemistry & Analytical Biochemistry, 2015
The present work resulted in isolation and purification of two potential anticancer compounds from Chaetomium globosum isolated from Egyptian soil. The two compounds were tested against Michigan Cancer Foundation-7(MCF-7) breast cancer cell line and Hepatocellular carcinoma, Human (HEPG-2) a human liver carcinoma cell line and showed inhibition effect ...

Bioprospecting Indoor Bacteria Producing Bioactive Metabolites

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
The indoor environments served as easily accessible habitats for bacteria producing mitochondrial toxins and ionophores, effects exhibited by known antiparasitic drugs and effects useful in mitochondrial research. This study describes the bacterial species and genera producing toxic peptide antibiotics and identifies some of their biological targets in

Production of a Chaetomium globosum Enolase Monoclonal Antibody [PDF]

open access: yesMonoclonal Antibodies in Immunodiagnosis & Immunotherapy, 2014
Chaetomium globosum is a hydrophilic fungal species and a contaminant of water-damaged building materials in North America. Methods to detect Chaetomium species include subjective identification of ascospores, viable culture, or molecular-based detection methods.

Soil Microbiome Predator Diversity Outperforms Nitrogen Addition in Boosting Plant Biomass via Bacterial Community Shifts

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Soil biodiversity may help reduce dependence on nitrogen fertilization, but experimental evidence remains limited. We tested how microbiome predator diversity (protists and nematodes) and nitrogen addition influence Cannabis sativa performance. Increasing microbiome predator diversity enhanced plant biomass by up to 60%, exceeding the effects of ...

Cell-wall Proteins of Aspergillus niger and Chaetomium globosum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1969
SUMMARY: Cell-wall fractions were obtained from Aspergillus niger and Chaetomium globosum. Non-structural protein was removed by successive washes in urea, NH4OH and formic acid. Amino acid analyses indicated that structural wall proteins were acidic. Aspartic acid was the free amino terminal residue of the protein in both species.
