Tibiotarsal chaetotaxy in Tullbergiinae (Collembola: Onychiuridae)

AbstractSix types of tibiotarsal chaetotaxy are recognised among genera of the subfamily Tullbergiinae. The most complete chaetotaxy is found in the nearctic species Thllbergia clavata Mills, while the most reduced type is displayed by many species of Mesaphorura and related genera.

Leg chaetotaxy and the classification of the Uropodina (Acari: Mesostigmata)

Details of the segmental chaetotaxy of the legs of 47 species of Uropodina are given. On the basis of the ontogenetic development of the chaetotaxy, the Uropodina may be divided into two groups which coincide with the concepts of the Lower (Polyaspidoidea) and Higher (Uropodoidea) Uropodina of certain authors.

A chaetotaxy for cephalic sensilla in larval Simuliidae (Diptera)

To develop a chaetotaxy for heads of larval Simuliidae (Diptera: Culicomorpha), position of head sensilla relative to other structures, plus sensillar innervation, were used to establish homologies with head sensilla of larval mosquitoes (Culicidae). Cleared whole mounts of first- and later-instar larval simuliids were examined using light microscopy.

Head porotaxy and chaetotaxy of order Acerentomata (Protura)

The head porotaxy and chaetotaxy was studied in three families of proturans in the order Acerentomata: Hesperentomidae,Protentomidae and Acerentomidae. The head chaetotaxy of Protentomidae is highly diversified. A system of head setae names was developed and applied for a phyletic analysis of Acerentomata.

The ontogeny of the musculature and segments of the antennule of Heterocypris incongruens (Ramdohr, 1808) is documented. The musculature of the antennule of the juveniles indicates that during ontogeny the additional segments originate by existing segments dividing. Abstract A recent analysis of the systems of notation used for the dorsal idiosomal setae in the Macrochelidae is re-examined. A seta (r5) which was overlooked previously is now incorporated, and corrections are made to the names of surrounding setae, to facilitate the application of the notation system of Lindquist and Evans.

Integrative systematics in Protura: from chaetotaxy to DNA.

The growth in knowledge about Protura, after their relative recent discovery (SILVESTRI, 1907), remained rather limited. Due to their small body size, and to their cryptic lifestyle in the soil, only few specialists are able to determine these insects to species level.
