Most of the human infections with Trypanosoma cruzi are caused by triatomine species adapted to thrive in domestic habitats and blood-feed on humans. Residual house spraying with insecticides applied by public health personnel remains the mainstay of triatomine control, with pyrethroids being in use for nearly 40 years.
