Optimisation of the chain drive system on sports motorcycles
Sports Engineering, 2004This paper investigates the optimisation of the chain drive system on sports motorcycles. Recently there has been the development of a chain transmission efficiency model that is suitable for motorcycles. The new model is used to predict the efficiency of 600cc sports motorcycle at different speeds.

Simulation of a chain drive CVT as a mechatronic system
1997 1st International Conference, Control of Oscillations and Chaos Proceedings (Cat. No.97TH8329), 2002This paper deals with the dynamics of a chain drive CVT (continuously variable transmission). To get realistic predictions about the system behaviour at the variation of the gear ratio and high dynamical loads, the models of all mechanical components including the hydraulics are presented. Particular attention is paid to the detailed description of the

Coupled response and noise of roller chain drive systems
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995A chain drive system consists of a closed loop roller chain wrapped around two or more sprockets. One of the most significant noise sources in an operating roller chain drive emanates from the repeated impacts between the chain links and sprocket teeth during their meshing.

A Comprehensive Drive Chain Model Applicable to Valvetrain Systems
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005<div class="htmlview paragraph">A model of roller chain and sprocket dynamics was developed, aimed at analyses of dynamic effects of chain drive systems in automotive valvetrains. Each chain link is modeled as a rigid body with planar motion, with three degrees of freedom and connected to adjacent links by means of a springs and dampers.

A Roller Chain Drive Model Including Contact with Guide-Bars
A model of a roller chain drive is developed and applied to the simulation and analysis of roller chain drives of large marine diesel engines. The model includes the impact with guide-bars that are the motion delimiter components on the chain strands ...

Role of Multibody Dynamics in the Design of Chain Drive Systems
Volume 6: 5th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control, Parts A, B, and C, 2005Some of the most common warranty claims in the automotive business today are noise and vibration (NVH) complaints. Compounding the problem is use of extended warranties leaving the OEM subject to claims for longer periods of time. CAE tools that can help predict and eliminate such problems earlier in the design cycle can dramatically reduce overall ...

32 Development of Silent Chain Drive System for Motorcycles
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2002<div class="htmlview paragraph">Examining the noise reduction of a motorcycle, the requirement of an effective method of reducing a drive chain noise has been a pending issue similarly to noise originating from an engine or exhaust system, etc. Through this study, it became clear that the mechanism of chain noise could be classified into two; low

A Dynamic Analysis of the Oscillations in a Chain Drive
A model is presented in which the oscillations, and the forces thus produced, in a chain drive, working at moderate and high speed, can be calculated. Since the outer system affects the result it has been necessary to include this in the model.

Performance Comparison Between Chain and Belt Cam-Drive Systems
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">Cam-drive system performance was experimentally evaluated between chain and belt drive systems. The production Ford Duratec 3.0L 4-valve engine that is chain drive system was used as a reference and it was retrofitted with the belt drive system.
