N─H or O─H Bond Activation With a Bicyclic Si4 Ring Compound

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The bicyclic Si4 ring compound with zwitterionic character reacts with NH3, H2O, and selected alcohols to give functionalized saturated silicon rings, siliconoid clusters with unsubstituted Si atoms, or simple 1,3‐addition products. The experimentally observed reactivity could be rationalized based on results from mechanistic calculations employing ...

Deriving General Energy Predictors for Pnictogen Bonding

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This study derives general energetic predictors for pure pnictogen bonds from nitrogen to bismuth based on the potential energy density at the bond critical point. The research highlights the increasing occurrence of secondary interactions for heavier elements.

Unveiling σ- and π-hole interactions in COSe-XCN (X = F, Cl, Br, and I): Theoretical insights into halogen substitution effects

open access: yesResults in Chemistry
XCN molecules (X = F, Cl, Br, I) are linear pseudohalogen species containing a reactive and toxic cyanide group. Their high electrophilicity and toxicity limit experimental studies.

Multi‐state Photoswitching in Thienoquinoid‐Based Fluorescent Trithiophenes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A methine‐bridged trithiophene with a thienoquinoid core undergoes photoisomerization of both C═C bonds, affording three geometrical isomers in a ratio controlled by the irradiation wavelength. Despite full π‐conjugation, the system retains fluorescence, enabling wavelength‐addressable multi‐state switching with luminescent readout.

Introduction and Extension of the Unified Theory of Multicenter Bonding: The Role of the Charge-Shift Bonding

open access: yesMolecules
Classical chemical bonding is typically categorized into primary, strong interactions, such as covalent, ionic, and metallic bonds, and secondary, weak interactions, such as van der Waals forces, the hydrogen bond, and their likes (halogen bond ...

From Charge‐Transfer Adducts to (Tri)Halide‐Templated Supramolecular Cages: Covalent vs Ionic Products in the Reactions of Pyridin‐4‐ylthio‐Substituted Tetrathiafulvalene With Dihalogens and Interhalogens

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The reactions between tetra(pyridin‐4‐ylthio)tetrathiafulvalene and Br2/I2/ICl/IBr led to a variety of products, including a rare example of neutral 1:4 CT adduct and ionic products showing supramolecular cage motifs at (tri)halide templates. The nature of the reaction products was elucidated based on XRD analysis, Raman spectroscopy and QTAIM, NCI ...

Achievement of Transition Metal Chalcogenides/Oxides in Hydrogen Production by Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
Transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs)/oxides have shown great application potential in seawater splitting for hydrogen generation due to their adjustable electronic properties, abundant active sites, and excellent catalytic performance. ABSTRACT Under the impetus of global “dual carbon” goals, green hydrogen has become a key component of the future ...
