This paper presents a new explicit stochastic hydro‐economic optimization model for reservoir‐irrigation district systems design affected by multiple interdependent sources of uncertainties. The model solution determines both optimal design and long‐term

Mixed-Integer Conic Formulation of Unit Commitment with Stochastic Wind Power
Due to the high randomness and volatility of renewable energy sources such as wind energy, the traditional thermal unit commitment (UC) model is no longer applicable.

Overcommitment in Cloud Services: Bin Packing with Chance Constraints
This paper considers a traditional problem of resource allocation: scheduling jobs on machines. One such recent application is cloud computing; jobs arrive in an online fashion with capacity requirements and need to be immediately scheduled on physical ...

ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Adaptive MPC with Chance Constraints for FIR Systems [PDF]
This paper proposes an adaptive stochastic Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy for stable linear time invariant systems in the presence of bounded disturbances. We consider multi-input multi-output systems that can be expressed by a finite impulse response model, whose parameters we estimate using a linear Recursive Least Squares algorithm ...

ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Stochastic Path Planning with Obstacle Avoidance for UAVs Using Covariance Control
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating in uncertain environments must plan safe and efficient trajectories while avoiding obstacles. This work addresses this challenge by formulating UAV path planning as a stochastic optimal control problem using ...

Scenario Approximations of Chance Constraints [PDF]
We consider an optimization problem of minimization of a linear function subject to the chance constraint ℙ{G(x, ξ) ∈ C} ≥ 1−e, where C is a convex set, G(x, ξ) is bi-affine mapping and ξ is a vector of random perturbations with known distribution. When C is multi-dimensional and e is small, like 10−6 or 10−10, this problem is, generically, a problem ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
