Dietary betulinic acid alleviates high carbohydrate diet-induced hepatic de novo lipogenesis through AMPK signaling and improves liver health in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
A high carbohydrate diet (HCD) induced excessive hepatic de novo lipogenesis, which caused metabolic disorder and impaired the health of fish species. Betulinic acid (BA) has been applied to ameliorate fatty liver and anti-inflammatory in mammals.

Inactivation Strategies of Clostridium perfringens in Foods: Current Challenges and Emerging Interventions

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2026.
Clostridium perfringens forms heat‐resistant spores that complicate food safety. Physical methods (thermal processing, HPP, vacuum cooling, ozone treatments) and chemical interventions (natural antimicrobials, phosphates, nitrate/nitrite, organic acids) reduce vegetative cells and spores, though spore resistance remains a major challenge in food and ...

Resilience to Cardiac Aging in Greenland Shark Somniosus microcephalus

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Greenland shark Somniosus microcephalus shows severe cardiac aging such as fibrosis, lipofuscin buildup, mitochondrial damage, and oxidative stress, unseen in comparison species Etmopterus spinax and Nothobranchius furzeri, yet remain healthy. S. microcephalus resilience suggests unique mechanisms that preserve heart function for centuries, offering ...

Refining a molecular tool kit to capture tropicalization in Mediterranean marine protected areas

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
We assess complementarity and trade‐offs between visual census and eDNA metabarcoding for monitoring fish community changes in MPAs. Abstract Tropicalization, the process by which tropical species expand their ranges poleward due to global ocean warming, is a prominent threat to Mediterranean marine ecosystems, challenging their effective management ...

A Meta‐Analysis on Environmental Triggers of Spawning Migrations Reveals a New Classification of Thermal Guilds in European Freshwater Fishes

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 478-495, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Fish migration through river networks is essential for completing life cycles and accessing critical habitats, but fragmentation increasingly disrupts spawning movements. In Europe, over one million barriers limit connectivity and create trade‐offs between ecological integrity and human uses, such as hydropower, flood control, fisheries and ...
