Diversity with practical channel estimation

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2005
In this paper, we present a framework for evaluating the bit error probability of N/sub d/-branch diversity combining in the presence of non-ideal channel estimates. The estimator structure presented is based on the maximum-likelihood (ML) estimate and arises naturally as the sample mean of N/sub p/ pilot symbols.

On estimation for a binary-symmetric channel

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1998
Summary: We consider a binary-symmetric channel where the input, modeled as an infinite sequence of bits, is distorted by a Bernoulli noise. In [\textit{G. Simons}, Estimating distortion in a binary symmetric channel consistently, ibid. 37, 1466-1470 (1991)], a consistent estimator of the distortion, i.e., of the probability that a single bit is ...

Architecture of WLAN channel estimators

2016 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS), 2016
Channel estimation is an important issue in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems to improve the performance of system. For OFDM based IEEE 802.11ad wireless local area network (WLAN), two types of symbols, training symbols and pilot symbols, can be used for channel estimation in the OFDM receiver.

Iterative channel estimation for GPRS

11th IEEE International Symposium on Personal Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. PIMRC 2000. Proceedings (Cat. No.00TH8525), 2002
In this paper we consider iterative estimation and equalization techniques and present a simple method of updating channel estimates that includes decoder outputs into the iteration process. To clarify performance-complexity trade-off we evaluated iterative estimation and turbo equalization techniques in the General Packet Radio System (GPRS).

Channel estimation by symmetrical clustering

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2002
A new blind channel estimation algorithm is presented. This algorithm comes from the well-known maximum likelihood estimation approach. However, we intentionally "smooth" the joint probability density function (PDF) of a finite set of observations in order to reduce the computational burden.

Joint Channel and Velocity Estimation

2007 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, 2007
An algorithm for jointly tracking the Rayleigh fading channel and the mobile velocity is presented. The proposed scheme is based on the interacting multiple model (IMM) Algorithm. The IMM utilizes a bank of Kalman filter, each matched to a specific mobile velocity, and the output of the filters are linearly combined based on the instantaneous ...

Channel estimation for multicarrier CDMA

2000 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37100), 2002
Multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) is a flexible and adaptable radio interface to provide dynamically changing bit rates and a variety of services on radio channels. An accurate channel estimate allows the use of multiuser detection and power loading to improve system performance. A blind linear multiuser channel estimator for MC-CDMA is proposed.

Channel estimation in fast fading channels

2008 Third International Conference on Communications and Networking in China, 2008
Accurate radio channel estimation is necessary for efficient wireless communications. This paper proposes a novel Kalman filter algorithm using basis expansion models (BEMs) of the channel gains to accurately estimate fast fading channels. The channel state for finite duration blocks is summarized in terms of BEM coefficients.

Diversity and Channel Estimation Errors

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2004
We study the relation between a training-based detector and a coherent maximum-likelihood detector. We prove that under quite general conditions, the diversity gains associated with these two receivers are equal. Finally, we discuss the relation between our analysis and a related result in the literature.

Channel Estimation for Block-IFDMA

2007
In this paper, pilot multiplexing and channel estimation is investigated for two different signal models of DFT precoded OFDMA with block-interleaved subcarrier allocation (B-IFDMA). The influence of the B-IFDMA signal model on the bit error rate performance with and without perfect channel knowledge is presented.
