Multi-channel effect of condensation flow in a micro triple-channel condenser

open access: yes, 2008
Multi-channel effect is important to understand transport phenomenon in phase change systems with parallel channels. In this paper, visualization studies were performed to study the multi-channel effect in a silicon triple-channel condenser with an ...

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Flow-Particle Coupling in a Channel Flow Laden with Elongated Particles: The Role of Aspect Ratio

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
A turbulent channel flow laden with elongated, fiber-like particles is investigated experimentally by optical techniques. The flow-particle inter-coupling is analyzed in the case of particles with an aspect ratio of 40 and 80, at two volume fractions, 10−

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Noise Reduction Effect of Superhydrophobic Surfaces with Streamwise Strip of Channel Flow

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Superhydrophobic surface is a promising technology, but the effect of superhydrophobic surface on flow noise is still unclear. Therefore, we used alternating free-slip and no-slip boundary conditions to study the flow noise of superhydrophobic channel ...

Acceleration in turbulent channel flow

open access: yes, 2010
We use Direct Numerical Simulations of turbulent channel flow to study the acceleration A corresponding to the full fluid velocity u and the acceleration a corresponding to the fluctuating velocity u? ? u?hui where hui is the mean flow.

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Structure of Turbulent Channel Flow under Spanwise System Rotation

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
Direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow under spanwise system rotation is performed. When system rotation is imposed on turbulent Poiseuille flow, the Reynolds number decreases in one side of a channel, while it increases in the other side.

On the Evaluation of Mesh Resolution for Large-Eddy Simulation of Internal Flows Using Openfoam

open access: yesFluids, 2021
The central aim of this paper is to use OpenFOAM for the assessment of mesh resolution requirements for large-eddy simulation (LES) of flows similar to the ones which occur inside the draft-tube of hydraulic turbines at off-design operating conditions ...
