In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Multilayer Complex Network Descriptors for Color-Texture Characterization

open access: yes, 2018
A new method based on complex networks is proposed for color-texture analysis. The proposal consists on modeling the image as a multilayer complex network where each color channel is a layer, and each pixel (in each color channel) is represented as a ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Simulation and Analysis of Propagation Characteristics for Tunnel Train-Ground Communications at 1.4 and 40 GHz

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper focuses on the analysis of propagation characteristics for train-ground communication (TGC) systems in tunnel scenarios at both low frequency and millimeter-wave (mmWave) bands, based on ray-tracing (RT) simulation.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Channel Modeling and Parameter Optimization for Hovering UAV-Based Free-Space Optical Links

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2018
Recently, the use of multi-rotor (MR) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has emerged as a promising solution for establishing flexible free-space optical communication links. We address, in this paper, the accurate channel modeling to assess the benefits of
