Patient Perceptions of Chaperones during Intimate Examinations and Procedures in Urology Clinic
Urology Practice, 2019We surveyed patients on their expectations and preferences regarding chaperones during intimate examinations and procedures in urology clinic.Patients identified in the outpatient urology clinic were queried for demographics, expectations and preferences regarding chaperones through a 16-item survey. We collected data from 200 patients (52.5% male, 47.5%

Is it time for the virtual chaperone in genitourinary medicine clinics?
International Journal of STD & AIDS, 2007The General Medical Council recommends that chaperones must be offered during intimate examinations. Implementation of these guidelines may serve to protect both patients and staff within the genitourinary (GU) medicine clinic, but is likely to have major ramifications from a practical, financial and staffing perspective. The Virtual Chaperone (VC) is

Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, 2014
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by dementia, cognitive disabilities, and tauopathy. Tau is a microtubule associated protein that helps maintain the neuronal network. While phosphorylation of tau protein causes disruption of the microtubular network, dephosphorylation allows reconstitution of the microtubule network.

An audit of chaperone use for intimate examinations in an integrated sexual health clinic
International Journal of STD & AIDS, 2012We performed an audit at the Edinburgh Chalmers Sexual Health Centre to examine if the use and documentation of chaperones complies with the guidance set out by the General Medical Council (GMC) and other regulatory bodies. The case-notes of patients seen in the non-specialist, morning clinics over a one-week period were studied.

A hood for a hawk: when to use chaperones in sexual health clinics*
Sexual Health, 2007Rogstadās editorial1 on chaperones for intimate examinations in sexual health clinics provided a comprehensive discussion of the issues and competing interests. However, we consider that her recommendations are too prescriptive. Will chaperones reduce false allegations by patients, or reduce the likelihood of offensive behaviour by a clinician? Medical

All eukaryotic cells respond to the accumulation of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) by signaling an adaptive pathway termed the unfolded protein response (UPR). Glucose-regulated protein (Grp) 78 is a molecular chaperone involved in the UPR.

Immunology Letters, 2018
The death of cancer cells can be categorized as either immunogenic (ICD) or nonimmunogenic, depending on the initiating stimulus. The immunogenic processes of immunogenic cell death are mainly mediated by damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which include surface exposure of calreticulin (CRT), secretion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP ...

Gender and embodiment in nursing: the role of the female chaperone in the infertility clinic
Nursing Inquiry, 2005This paper develops previous work on theories of embodiment by drawing on empirical data from a study into the experiences of infertile women in the UK. I suggest experiences of embodiment shape the preferences of infertile women for a female nurse as chaperone during intimate medical procedures.
