Characteristic Methods for Solving the Particle Transport Equation in 1-D Spherical Geometry

open access: yes, 2009
A family of numerical methods for solving the particle transport equation in 1-D spherical geometry are developed using the method of characteristics. The development of these methods is driven by a desire to: (i) provide solutions to transport problems ...

Commutative rings with homomorphic power functions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1992
A (commutative) ring R (with identity) is called m-linear (for an integer m≥2) if (a+b)m=am+bm for all a and b in R. The m-linear reduced rings are characterized, with special attention to the finite case.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Complex modes in boxed microstrip [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A method is described for obtaining the propagation coefficients and field patterns of a large number of modes for microstrip with a minimum of computational effort.

Characteristic Polynomials [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Mathematics, 1957
Let F be a field and let V be a finite dimensional vector space over F which is also a module over the ring F[a]. Here a may lie in any extension ring of F. We do not assume, as yet, that V is a faithful module, so that a need not be a linear ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Zassenhaus varieties of general linear Lie algebras

open access: yes, 2005
Let g be a Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0 and let U be the universal enveloping algebra of g. We prove in this paper for g=gl_n and g=sl_n that the centre Z of U is a unique factorisation domain and that its field

New approach in form cutter profiling [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал інженерних наук, 2016
The universal algorithm, independent of geometric parameters of detail and required cutter type, becomes relevant within using modern computing means. Following this argument the universal mathematical model, which generalizes formerly known approaches ...
