The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Primary Study on Effect of Extraction Methods on the Properties and Activities of Polysaccharides from Geum japonicum var. Chinense F. Bolle

open access: yesMolecules
Geum japonicum Thunb. var. Chinese F. Bolle, a traditional Miao medicine with significant clinical potential, is rich in polysaccharides. Despite its importance, there is a scarcity of research on the structure and activities of these polysaccharides. In

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Characteristic function approach to the sum of stochastic variables

open access: yes
This paper puts forward a technique based on the characteristic function to tackle the problem of the sum of stochastic variables. We consider independent processes whose reduced variables are identically distributed, including those that violate the ...

"Empirical characteristic function approach to goodness-of-fit tests for the Cauchy distribution with parameters estimated by MLE or EISE" [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider goodness-of-fit tests of Cauchy distribution based on weighted integrals of the squared distance of the difference between the empirical characteristic function of the standardized data and the characteristic function of the standard Cauchy ...

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients with Different Variants of SARS-CoV-2 in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Thailand

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Infectious Disease
The different strains of SARS-CoV-2 were detected and labeled in 2021. Each strain differs in both clinical symptoms and severity. Previous studies found different clinical symptoms and treatment outcomes between outbreak waves; however, data in ...

TRUST IN MONO-ETHNIC AND MIXED-ETHNIC ASSOCIATIONS IN PENANG [PDF]

open access: yesKajian Malaysia, 2007
Investigation into trust has become a topical issue in current socialscience research. This is, in large part, a result of a perception that trust in institutions has declined markedly in the past two decades.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
