Problem of Terminology in Characteristics of Spermatozoa of Metazoa

Russian Journal of Developmental Biology, 2005
Difficulties in characterization of spermatozoa of the Metazoa are now related to insufficiency of the traditional terms "primitive spermatozoon", "modified spermatozoon", and "aberrant spermatozoon" introduced by G. Retzius and A. Franzen for description of intermediate forms discovered in the 20th century.

The characteristic selection problem in recognition systems

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1962
Design of pattern recognition systems usually involves a number of uncertainties which can be resolved only by experiment. In statistical recognition systems, pattern information is stored in the machine in the form of pattern characteristics with statistics relating the characteristics to the patterns.

On a problem of Dugué for generalized characteristic functions

1983
Consider a problem given by \textit{D. Dugué}, Mem. Sci. Math. 137 (1957; Zbl 0084.127). He was interested in finding couples \((\phi_ 1,\phi_ 2)\) of characteristic functions satisfying the condition \((\phi_ 1(t)+\phi_ 2(t))/2=\phi_ 1(t)\phi_ 2(t)\) as the functions \(\phi_ 1(t)=1/(1+it)\), \(\phi_ 2(t)=1/(1-it)\) do.
