A Characterization of the Commutator Subgroup of a Group

Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1976
AbstractAn element a of a semigroup S is n-potent if there exist a1, a2,..., ak∈S such that a = a1a2...ak and If S is a group, the set of n-potent elements is a normal subgroup of S and the set of 1-potent elements is the commutator subgroup of S.

Characterizations of finite groups with σ-semiembedded subgroups

Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, 2022
Let [Formula: see text] be a partition of the set of all primes [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] a finite group and [Formula: see text]. A set [Formula: see text] of subgroups of [Formula: see text] is said to be a complete Hall[Formula: see text]-set of [Formula: see text] if every non-identity member of [Formula: see text] is a Hall [Formula:

Fuzzy subgroups: Some characterizations. II

Information Sciences, 1986
The paper solves a problem mentioned by \textit{P. S. Das} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 84, 264--269 (1981; Zbl 0476.20002)]: Given a chain of groups bounded above by \(G\), find a fuzzy group on \(G\), whose level subgroups (cuts) form this chain. [Part I, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 128, 241--252 (1987; Zbl 0631.20002).]

A characterization of subgroups of the orthogonal group

Journal of Geometry, 1996
Let \(K\) be a field of characteristic distinct from 2. Put \(K^n=V\), assume \(n\geq 2\), and let \(G\) be a subgroup of the general linear group \(\text{GL}_n(K)\). Suppose \(G\) is generated by the set \(S\) of all involutions \(\sigma\in G\) satisfying \(\dim V(\sigma-1)=1\). Such an element \(\sigma\) is called a reflection.

Characterization of Bases of Subgroups of Free Topological Groups

Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 1983
It is shown here that if Y is a closed subspace of the free topological group FM (X) on a k-space X then FM (X) has a closed subgroup topologically isomorphic to FM (Y). Thus the problem of determining whether FM (Y) can be embedded in FM (X) is reduced to that of checking if FM (X) contains a closed copy of Y. As an extension of the above result it is

A CHARACTERIZATION OF ALTERNATING GROUPS BY ORDERS OF SOLVABLE SUBGROUPS

Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, 2004
In this paper, we prove that a finite group G is isomorphic to the alternating group An with n≥5 if and only if they have the same set of the orders of solvable subgroups.

Another characterization of the commutator subgroup

Communications in Algebra, 1992
In this article we shall prove a cliaracterization of the commutator subgroup of a group: which is, obviously, a natural characterization of G'.
