Charcoal Analysis in the Kwilu-Kasai and Lower Congo Regions
This chapter presents the preliminary analysis of 1870 charcoal fragments from 20 archaeological sites across the DRC's Kongo-Central and Kwilu Provinces. The results span the last 2500 years but are most conclusive for the Late Iron Age (LIA, 1000–1900 CE) and reveal shifts in fuelwood origin.
