Sound production in the Asian paddle crab Charybdis japonica

Marine Ecology Progress Series
Sound production in crustaceans is a widely documented and accepted form of intraspecific communication. However, the mechanisms and behavioural function of sound production in the invasive marine arthropod Charybdis japonica have never been described.

Effects of mercuric chloride on antioxidant system and DNA integrity of the crab Charybdis japonica

Journal of Ocean University of China, 2009
Mercury (Hg) is one of the commonly encountered heavy metals, which is widespread in inshore sediments of China. In order to investigate the toxicity of Hg on marine invertebrates, we studied the effects of the divalent mercuricion (Hg2+) (at two final concentrations of 0.0025 and 0.0050 mg L−1, prepared with HgCl2) on metallothionein (MT) content, DNA

Metallothionein, antioxidant enzymes and DNA strand breaks as biomarkers of Cd exposure in a marine crab, Charybdis japonica

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, 2006
Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic heavy metals that are widespread in inshore sediments of China, and can induce the production of toxic hydroxyl radicals that cause cell damage. The present study investigated the effect of two Cd concentrations (the final Cd concentration of 0.025 and 0.05 mg/L, prepared with CdCl2 x 2.5H2O) on metallothioneins ...

[Effects of diet condition on survival and metamorphosis of Charybdis japonica larvae].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2004
This paper studied the effects of different kind and density of baits and different starvation duration on Charybdis japonica larvae. The results showed that the preferable baits of zoaea-1 were Chaetoceros sp. and Isochrysis galbana, and their proper feeding density were 20 x 10(4) cell.ml-1. The preferable bait of the larvae after zoaea-1 was Artemia

Effects of Vibrio alginolyticus infection on immune-related enzyme activities and ultrastructure of Charybdis japonica gills

Aquaculture, 2013
Abstract In this study, the pathogenic mechanism of a Gram-negative bacterium Vibrio alginolyticus in the stone crab Charybdis japonica was explored by investigating activities of innate immune enzymes during infection, including phenoloxidase (PO), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lysozyme (LSZ).

Comparative fishing trials for Charybdis japonica using collapsible box-shaped and dome-shaped pots

Fisheries Science, 2005
Comparative fishing trials were undertaken with two commercial collapsible pots for the crab Charybdis japonica. One pot was box-shaped with two slit entrances at the ends, while the other was dome-shaped with two open funnel entrances. Pots were placed at the bottom of a pond that is connected to Kagoshima Bay.

On the biology of the Japanese swimming crab Charybdis japonica (Portunidae) in waters of primorye at the northern boundary of their range

Russian Journal of Marine Biology, 2011
Data on the biology of the Japanese swimming crab, such as sexual dimorphism, size and weight structure, sex ratio, allometric growth, and fecundity were obtained in Sukhodol Bay (Ussuri Bay). The maximum carapace width was 116 mm and the largest weight was 340 g in males and 107 mm and 210 g, respectively, in females. The female to male ratio was 1.0:

Purification and Carbohydrate-Binding Specificities of a Blood Type B Binding Lectin from Hemolymph of a Crab (Charybdis japonica)

The Journal of Biochemistry, 1991
A blood type B binding lectin (CJA-B) was isolated from the hemolymph of the crab Charybdis japonica by affinity chromatography on Sephadex G-200. The molecular mass of the native lectin was determined to be 300 kDa by gradient polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under nondenaturing conditions.

Immune response, MT and HSP70 gene expression, and bioaccumulation induced by lead exposure of the marine crab, Charybdis japonica

Aquatic Toxicology, 2019
In order to understand the mechanisms of the toxicity of lead (Pb) on invertebrates, the immunotoxic effects of Pb in the marine crab, Charybdis japonica, were evaluated in the present study. The crabs were exposed to 0.066, 0.132, 1.318, 2.636, 6.590, and 13.181 μM of lead acetate and a control over 30 days, and the hemolymph was sampled terminally ...

Comparative fishing trials for invasive swimming crabs Charybdis japonica and Portunus pelagicus using collapsible pots

Fisheries Research, 2006
Abstract Comparative fishing trials on the crab Charybdis japonica were undertaken in a pond, using three types of collapsible pot. One was box-shaped (2.3 cm mesh size) with two slit entrances at the ends, while the others were dome-shaped and had two open funnel entrances but different mesh sizes (2.3 and 6 cm). Trials (100 pot hauls/pot type) were
