Why are the inner and outer sides of many flower petals differently coloured?

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 26, Issue 5, Page 665-674, August 2024.
Evolutionary hypotheses aimed at explaining why inner and outer sides of petals are often differently coloured. Abstract The flower perianth has various, non‐mutually exclusive functions, such as visual signalling to pollinators and protecting the reproductive organs from the elements and from florivores, but how different perianth structures and their

Screening of Chelidonium majus isoquinoline alkaloids reveals berberine and chelidonine as selective ligands for the nuclear receptors RORβ and HNF4α, respectively

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 357, Issue 7, July 2024.
Since the Chelidonium majus (greater celandine) alkaloid sanguinarine has recently been characterized as a dual peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor‐α/γ ligand, sanguinarine and structurally related alkaloids were screened on nuclear receptors. Berberine and chelidonine were identified as Chelidonium majus alkaloids with selectivity for the two ...

Propagation of Chelidonium majus L. by Somatic Embryogenesis

open access: yesBiologia plantarum, 2002
Direct somatic embryogenesis in celandine (Chelidonium majus L.) was achieved in epicotyl explants of seedlings after prolonged cultivation on Murashige and Skoog medium with or without plant growth regulators. Somatic embryos developed into plantlets which entered additional cycles of somatic embryogenesis.

Fragmentation and biodiversity change in urban vegetation: A case study of tram lines

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 35, Issue 5, Page 1734-1747, March 2024.
Abstract This study explores the vegetation composition along various tram line sections in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a focus on understanding the impact of usage, maintenance, and historical development on urban vegetation dynamics. This study addresses this knowledge gap by investigating how these factors influence plant species composition, leading to
