Structural and sequence evolution of U17 small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and its phylogenetic congruence in chelonians.

open access: yes, 2003
Vertebrate U17 RNA is an intron-encoded H/CA box containing snoRNA, which has been intensively studied in the last decade, though its precise role in ribosome biogenesis is not yet clear.

Geographical Variation in Body Size and Sexual Size Dimorphism (SSD) in the Epaulette Shark (Hemiscyllium ocellatum)

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Body size is of paramount importance to the survival of all organisms because of the intimate associations between size, physiological processes and ecology. Sexual size dimorphism (SSD: differences in size between the sexes) is a direct consequence of these ecomorphological relationships, arising due to sex‐based differences in selection ...

Micro and Nanostructural Diversity of Lizard Osteoderm Capping Tissue in Relation to Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 26, 30 March 2026.
This study shows that lizard osteoderm capping tissue is a hyper‐mineralized hydroxyapatite layer consistently covering the superficial osteoderm surface in those species studied here, yet it varies greatly in morphology, nanostructure, and mechanical performance across species.

Unveiling the Evolutionary Lineages and Habitat Dynamics of the Monotypic Crowned River Turtle Hardella thurjii (Gray, 1831) (Testudines: Geoemydidae): Strategic Conservation Insights for an Endangered Freshwater Turtle From Southern Asia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The matrilineal evolutionary history and habitat preferences of the monotopic freshwater turtle Hardella thurjii remain largely unexplored, posing challenges for the development of precise and effective conservation strategies.

Computed tomography for evaluation of the normal lung in adult male terrapins of five captive species

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
Data on the tomographic characteristics of lung parenchyma in terrapins are rare. The objective of this study was to describe the tomographic anatomy of the lung parenchyma in five species of terrapins and estimate the normal CT attenuation values of the

Histological Variants of Squamous and Basal Cell Carcinoma in Squamates and Chelonians: A Comprehensive Classification

open access: yes, 2023
In the present study, the histological characteristics of squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) and basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) obtained from 22 squamate and 13 chelonian species were retrospectively evaluated.
