Chemexfoliation—indications and cautions
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1987Chemexfoliation (chemical peeling) is being used to obtain both therapeutic (e.g., actinic keratoses) and cosmetic (e.g., removal of fine facial rhytides) benefits. Phenol, one of the most widely used agents for inducing cutaneous exfoliation, may induce cardiac arrhythmias and is toxic to the liver and kidneys.

Abstract. The depth of wounds created by various concentrations and application techniques of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) in a porcine model is evaluated. The depth of tissue necrosis increased with the concentration of TCA. Tape occlusion did not deepen the wound but rather decreased its depth.
