Native N-glycome profiling of single cells and ng-level blood isolates using label-free capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry

open access: yesNature Communications
The development of reliable single-cell dispensers and substantial sensitivity improvement in mass spectrometry made proteomic profiling of individual cells achievable.

Strecker degradation products of aspartic and glutamic acids and their amides

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2001
Aspartic and glutamic acids, asparagine and glutamine were oxidised with either potassium peroxodisulphate or glyoxal. Nonvolatile products were derivatised and analysed by GC/FID and GC/MS.

C‐mannosylation promotes ADAMTS1 activation and secretion in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings

Determination of astringent taste in model solutions and in beverages

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2001
The astringent taste is important for the sensory quality of beverages. Perception thresholds of two important astringent compounds - tannic acid and (+)-catechin were determined using two procedures.

Alpha particle backscattering measurements used for chemical analysis of surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Alpha particle backscattering performs a chemical analysis of surfaces. The apparatus uses a curium source and a semiconductor detector to determine the energy spectrum of the particles.

The multidrug and toxin extrusion (MATE) transporter DTX51 antagonizes non‐cell‐autonomous HLS1–AMP1 signaling in a region‐specific manner

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Arabidopsis mutants hls1 hlh1 and amp1 lamp1 exhibit pleiotropic developmental phenotypes. Although the functions of the causative genes remain unclear, they act in the same genetic pathway and are thought to generate non‐cell‐autonomous signals.

Effect of defatted soybean flour on the flavour of extruded mixtures with wheat flour

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2002
Mixtures of wheat semolina, 5% glucose and 0-30% defatted soybean flour were used for the preparation of extruded samples using a pilot plant single screw extruder, maximum temperature being 140°C.

Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Water-insensitive NIR-I-to-NIR-I down-shifting nanoparticles enable stable biomarker detection at low power thresholds in opaque aqueous environments

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications
Luminescence quenching in aqueous environments poses a challenge for practical applications. Lanthanide-doped up-conversion nanoparticles (UCNPs), representative of near-infrared (NIR)-emitting phosphors, typically utilize Yb3+ ions as sensitizers ...
