Polystoma gallieni: Experimental evidence for chemical cues for developmental plasticity

open access: yesExperimental Parasitology, 2009
Among monogeneans that display direct life cycles, plastic developmental strategies may have been selected to counter the lack of transmission opportunities. Within amphibian polystomatids, some species of the genus Polystoma develop into two different phenotypes depending on the host physiological stage to which free swimming larvae attach.

Genetic Locus Required for Antigenic Maturation of \u3cem\u3eRhizobium etli\u3c/em\u3e CE3 Lipopolysaccharide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Rhizobium etli modifies lipopolysaccharide (LPS) structure in response to environmental signals, such as low pH and anthocyanins. These LPS modifications result in the loss of reactivity with certain monoclonal antibodies.

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

Turbidity influences individual and group level responses to predation in guppies, Poecilia reticulata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 The Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour. Increasing turbidity (either sedimentary or organic) from anthropogenic sources has significant negative impacts on aquatic fauna, both directly and indirectly by disrupting behaviour.

Marine Chemical Ecology: Chemical Signals and Cues Structure Marine Populations, Communities, and Ecosystems [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Marine Science, 2009
Chemical cues constitute much of the language of life in the sea. Our understanding of biotic interactions and their effects on marine ecosystems will advance more rapidly if this language is studied and understood. Here, I review how chemical cues regulate critical aspects of the behavior of marine organisms from bacteria to phytoplankton to benthic ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...
