Water Consumption in Hydrogen Production Through Electrolysis: Overview, State‐of‐the‐Art, and Future Trends

open access: yesWIREs Energy and Environment, Volume 15, Issue 2, June 2026.
Commercial‐scale “green” hydrogen projects use renewable electricity to drive electrolysis—the process of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Producing green hydrogen requires water not only for the electrolysis reaction but also for cooling the electrolyzers, which release waste heat.

Policy, Waste, and Power: Textile Dumping in Chile's Atacama Desert

open access: yesLatin American Policy, Volume 17, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Globally, 87% of textile fibers end up incinerated or in landfills, with Chile bearing the brunt of this crisis. Every year, 39,000 tons of discarded clothing are illegally dumped in the Atacama Desert, turning it into a sacrifice zone for the Global North's waste economy.

Aqueous Dissolution and Recovery of Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) in Multilayer Film

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 10, 27 May 2026.
Schematic of a water‐based recycling process for PVOH/PBAT‐PLA tri‐layer films, showing selective PVOH dissolution, process condition screening, and recovery of both polymer fractions. In this work, solvent‐based recycling was applied to a multilayer film of PBAT‐PLA and PVOH, where the dissolution conditions were optimized and the reusability of the ...

Evaluation of ilmenite, manganese ore, LD slag and iron sand oxygen carriers for chemical looping gasification with microalgae

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology
Microalgae could be a sustainable feedstock for production of liquid biofuels. However, as such fuels contain significant fractions of reactive ash species, it is necessary to deploy synthesis routes which can handle such “dirty” fuels.
