Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Seasonal Variation on Dissolved Oxygen, Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Chemical Oxygen Demand in Terengganu River Basin, Malaysia

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Science and Management, 2020
The rise in human population densities and the pace of development had intensified the depletion of the water quality. This study aimed to analyze the concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) during wet season and dry season at Terengganu River in 2016.

Enhance Removal Pollutant from Batik Industrial Wastewater via Photo- Fenton Process: Efficiency and Kinetic Study

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Engineering Research Progress
The present research evaluates the efficiency of the Photo-Fenton-like process under UV irradiation by varying ratio of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) to Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and H₂O₂ to ferrous ion (Fe²⁺) using wastewater from a batik manufacturer in ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Inlet diverters and oil collectors in distillation columns for reducing COD and BOD5 in biodiesel plants

open access: yesCase Studies in Chemical and Environmental Engineering
Wastewater from the biodiesel process contains oil and methanol, requiring treatment to reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD5).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
