Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Accelerating syngas-to-aromatic conversion via spontaneously monodispersed Fe in ZnCr2O4 spinel
Spontaneous monodispersion of active species and their stabilization in reductive atmospheres remain a challenge in catalytic syngas chemistry. Here the authors demonstrate that syngas-to-aromatic conversion can be significantly accelerated by the ...

Ion–solvent chemistry in lithium battery electrolytes: From mono-solvent to multi-solvent complexes
The building of safe and high energy-density lithium batteries is strongly dependent on the electrochemical performance of working electrolytes, in which ion–solvent interactions play a vital role. Herein, the ion–solvent chemistry is developed from mono-

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Imaging the node-linker coordination in the bulk and local structures of metal-organic frameworks
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are so sensitive to electron beams that it is challenging to atomically image their structures by electron microscopy. Here, the authors use the integrated differential phase contrast technique in STEM to achieve the low ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
