129 Xe chemical shift in human blood and pulmonary blood oxygenation measurement in humans using hyperpolarized 129 Xe NMR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: To evaluate the dependency of the 129 Xe-red blood cell (RBC) chemical shift on blood oxygenation, and to use this relation for noninvasive measurement of pulmonary blood oxygenation in vivo with hyperpolarized 129 Xe NMR ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Quantitative MRI assessment of peripheral nerves

open access: yesНервно-мышечные болезни
Over the past decade magnetic resonance imaging is being increasingly used in revealing pathological changes in peripheral nervous system due to a number of technical innovations and growth of diagnostical strength, and, therefore, due to initiation of ...

Pushing the limits of concertedness. A waltz of wandering carbocations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Among the array of complex terpene-forming carbocation cyclization/rearrangement reactions, the so-called "triple shift" reactions are among the most unexpected.

A combined NMR and DFT study of Narrow Gap Semiconductors: The case of PbTe

open access: yes, 2015
In this study we present an alternative approach to separating contributions to the NMR shift originating from the Knight shift and chemical shielding by a combination of experimental solid-state NMR results and ab initio calculations.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Protein structure validation and refinement using amide proton chemical shifts derived from quantum mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present the ProCS method for the rapid and accurate prediction of protein backbone amide proton chemical shifts - sensitive probes of the geometry of key hydrogen bonds that determine protein structure.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Ab Initio Calculations of Possible γ-Gauche Effects in the 13C-NMR for Methine and Carbonyl Carbons in Precise Polyethylene Acrylic Acid Copolymers

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
The impacts of local polymer chain conformations on the methine and carbonyl 13C-NMR chemical shifts for polyethylene acrylic acid p(E-AA) copolymers were predicted using ab initio methods.

Seven coordinate molybdenum and tungsten complexes containing Tpm and Tpm derivatives and the impact of ligand substitution on NMR chemical shifts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A series of known and new seven coordinate molybdenum and tungsten complexes of tris(pyrazolyl)methane (Tpm) and substituted Tpm, [TpmM(CO)3X]+, have been synthesized. Depending on the identity of X, (bromo, iodo, hydrido) and the substitution of the Tpm
