A New 3D Colon on a Chip to Decipher the Influence of Mechanical Forces on the Physiological Cellular Ecosystem

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...

Textural and geochemical characteristics of late Pleistocene to Holocene fine-grained deep-sea sediment cores (GM6 and GM7), recovered from southwestern Gulf of Mexico

open access: yesJournal of Palaeogeography, 2018
Texture, mineralogy, geochemistry, and 14C ages of two deep-sea sediment cores (GM6 and GM7) recovered in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico were investigated to infer their provenance and depositional condition.

Differentiation Study of the Damage Characteristics of Rock Cultural Heritage Sites Due to the Sulfate Weathering Process

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Salt crystallization represents one of the primary forms of weathering encountered in rock cultural heritage sites, with sulfate weathering having particularly notable destructive effects. This study focuses on sandstone and limestone, using them as test

Transistor‐Level Activation Functions via Two‐Gate Designs: From Analog Sigmoid and Gaussian Control to Real‐Time Hardware Demonstrations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Screen gate‐based transistors are presented, enabling tunable analog sigmoid and Gaussian activations. The SA‐transistor improves MRI classification accuracy, while the GA‐transistor supports precise Gaussian kernel tuning for forecasting. Both functions are implemented in a single device, offering compact, energy‐efficient analog AI processing ...

Arctic–alpine blockfields in the northern Swedish Scandes: late Quaternary – not Neogene [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Surface Dynamics, 2014
Autochthonous blockfield mantles may indicate alpine surfaces that have not been glacially eroded. These surfaces may therefore serve as markers against which to determine Quaternary erosion volumes in adjacent glacially eroded sectors.

De Rerum Natura: How Do Halide Perovskites Self‐Heal From Damage?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
How can lead‐halide‐perovskites self‐heal after damage from light, heat, mechanical strain, or radiation? We show that reversible chemical defects underly performance losses and recovery, highlighting the roles of halide and proton migration, redox‐driven reactions, and acid‐base equilibria.

Paleoenvironmental changes in the coastal zone of the northwest South China Sea during the last 13 kyr

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Marine sediments in coastal zones serve as valuable archives for understanding the history of silicate chemical weathering and summer monsoon rainfall in source areas, providing insights into terrigenous climate and environmental evolution. In this study,

Enhanced continental weathering ($\delta ^{7}$Li, $\varepsilon $Nd) during the rise of East African complex polities: an early large-scale anthropogenic forcing?

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Géoscience, 2022
Human-induced environmental disturbances during the Holocene have provided support for the Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis (EAH), which proposes that with the advent of agro-pastoralism and associated deforestation, humans have modified CO2 and CH4 ...

Chromatic‐Invariant Photothermal Fabrics Enabled by Narrow‐Bandgap Organic Semiconductors for Wearable Solar Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A chromatic‐invariant photothermal fabric is fabricated for outdoor activewear, realizing 4°C–8°C heating within 5 min under 1000 W m−2 illumination via NIR absorption, retaining high visible‐light reflectivity and original fabric functions, and achieving >95.3% sterilization in 20 min.
