Stochastic characteristics of a chemostat model with variable yield
, 2020In this paper, a stochastic chemostat model with variable yield is investigated. The environment noises are given by independent standard Brownian motions, and the yield coefficient reflecting the conversion of nutrient to microorganism varies depending ...

In Chapter 2 we considered the chemostat model and used mathematics to answer the question: How should we choose the outflow rate in order to harvest the maximum amount of bacteria. Our model however was incomplete because we assumed that the nutrient concentration in the growth chamber is constant in time, and hence our answer is questionable.

Threshold behavior of a stochastic Lotka–Volterra food chain chemostat model with jumps
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2019Taking levy jumps into account, a Lotka–Volterra food chain chemostat model in random environment is proposed and investigated. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of the global positive solution.

Thermodynamic Inhibition in Chemostat Models
Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2020We formulate a mathematical model of bacterial populations in a chemostat setting that also accounts for thermodynamic growth inhibition as a consequence of chemical reactions. Using only elementary mathematical and chemical arguments, we carry this out for two systems: a simple toy model with a single species, a single substrate, and a single reaction

A Simple Unforced Oscillatory Growth Model in the Chemostat
Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2007In a chemostat, transient oscillations in cell number density are often experimentally observed during cell growth. The aim of this paper is to propose a simple autonomous model which is able to generate these oscillations, and to investigate it analytically. Our point of view is based on a simplification of the cell cycle in which there are two states

The threshold of a chemostat model with single-species growth on two nutrients under telegraph noise
Communications in nonlinear science & numerical simulation, 2019In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a chemostat model with single-species growth on two nutrients, which is disturbed by the telegraph noise. Switching between different environmental states is achieved by Markov chain.

We consider a stochastic chemostat model involving two obligate mutualistic species feeding on a limiting substrate. It is shown that the spatial arrangement of the random states near the deterministic coexistence equilibrium is enlarged as noise ...
