Symmetric Space Cartan Connections and Gravity in Three and Four Dimensions

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2009
Einstein gravity in both 3 and 4 dimensions, as well as some interesting generalizations, can be written as gauge theories in which the connection is a Cartan connection for geometry modeled on a symmetric space.

Fivebranes and 3-manifold homology

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
Motivated by physical constructions of homological knot invariants, we study their analogs for closed 3-manifolds. We show that fivebrane compactifications provide a universal description of various old and new homological invariants of 3-manifolds.

Controlling Collective Quasiparticle Dynamics Beyond Decoherence in Topological Interfaces

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Gold nanoparticles placed above a deformed honeycomb plasmonic crystal couple to a chiral topological interface mode. The pseudospin‐split bands ψ+/ ψ− encode spin‐momentum locking, so emitters radiate directionally along the domain wall and share a common phase.

Chern—Simons Action and Disclinations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
© 2018, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. We review the main properties of the Chern—Simons and Hilbert—Einstein actions on a three-dimensional manifold with Riemannian metric and torsion.

Chern-Simons Origin of Superstring Integrability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We derive the AdS5×S5 Green-Schwarz superstring from four-dimensional Beltrami-Chern-Simons theory reduced on a manifold with singular boundary conditions.

A comment on metric vs metric-affine gravity

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2023
We consider the sum of the Einstein-Hilbert action and a Pontryagin density (PD) in arbitrary even dimension D≥4. All curvatures are functions of independent affine (torsionless) connections only.

Kuga–Satake Construction on Families of K3 Surfaces of Picard Rank 14

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The isometry between the type IV6 and the type II4 hermitian symmetric domains suggests a possible relation between suitable moduli spaces of K3 surfaces of Picard rank 14 and of polarized abelian 8‐folds with totally definite quaternion multiplication. We show how this isometry induces a geometrically meaningful map between such moduli spaces

Chern number of thin films of the topological insulator Bi2Se3

open access: yes, 2010
In thin films of Bi2Se3, the isospin sectors have nontrivial topological properties, which are conventionally characterized by the Z2 index. The generalized isospin Chern number [ E. Prodan Phys. Rev. B 80 125327 (2009)] is calculated in the general case

Investigation of English Language Learners’ Attitudes Toward Global Englishes and Global Englishes Language Teaching in Relation to Their Academic Interests and Experiences With English as a Global Lingua Franca

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates Japanese university students’ attitudes toward Global Englishes (GE) and Global Englishes Language Teaching (GELT), focusing on how these attitudes are shaped by students’ academic interests and experiences using English as a lingua franca (ELF), both abroad and in domestic EFL contexts.
