Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

In vitro evaluation of the sealing ability of three newly developed root canal sealers: A bacterial microleakage study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The purpose of this study was to compare the sealing ability of MTA Fillapex, Apatite Root Canal Sealer and AH26 sealers. The present in vitro study was carried out on 142 extracted single-rooted human mature teeth.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Improving Fluidization Hydrodynamics of Group C Particles by Mixing with Group B Particles

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
We have developed a new particle-mixing strategy for improving the fluidization hydrodynamics of Geldart group C powders by mixing with small proportions of group B particles. Two different group C particles with widely different physical properties, i.e.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Smoothing ordered sparse contingency tables and the Chi-Squared test [PDF]

open access: yes
To estimate cell probabilities for ordered sparse contingency tables several smooth- ing techniques have been investigated. It has been recognized that nonparametric smoothing methods provide estimators of cell probabilities that have better performance ...

Inference Under Convex Cone Alternatives for Correlated Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this research, inferential theory for hypothesis testing under general convex cone alternatives for correlated data is developed. While there exists extensive theory for hypothesis testing under smooth cone alternatives with independent observations ...
