Distribution of Chiasmata in an ‘Asynaptic’ Locust

Nature, 1957
THE relationship between the length of the chromosomes and the frequency with which they form chiasmata at meiosis is well known and has been analysed extensively by Darlington1, Mather2 and others. In general, it is found that long chromosomes form more chiasmata than short chromosomes in the same nucleus. The chiasma frequency, however, is not always

The optic neuropiles and chiasmata of Crustacea

Zeitschrift fr Zellforschung und Mikroskopische Anatomie, 1970
On the basis of ontogeny and adult morphology, an interpretation of the arrangement of optic neuropiles and fibre connexions of the Crustacean compound eye is presented. In the embryo of phyllopods and decapods, the ommatidia, the lamina ganglionaris, and the medulla externa are developed synchronously from a common medial proliferation zone.

Mitotic chiasmata in human diplochromosomes

Human Genetics, 1978
Three placental tissue cultures of spontaneous human abortions showed an unusually high frequency of metaphases with diplochromosomes. In 62 such cells, nine configurations were interpreted as mitotic chiasmata between the two sister chromosomes of a diplochromosome. One U-type exchange between two sister chromosomes was also found.

Zebrafish: chiasmata and interference

Genome, 2006
With immunofluorescence microscopy, the positions of centromeres and MLH1 (MutL homolog) foci representing the sites of presumptive chiasmata are shown for zebrafish (Danio rerio Hamilton 1822) synaptonemal complexes (SCs) in spermatocyte nuclei at meiotic prophase. Most SCs have a single focus and a few (7 of 140) have 2 chiasmata.

Meiosis without Chiasmata in Periplaneta americana

Nature, 1956
THAT meiosis in Periplaneta americana is characterized by the absence of any visible chiasma has already been reported by Morse1 and Suomalainen2. However, this absence of visible chiasmata with the consequent parallel disposition of the homologues in the bivalents from the zygotene to the pro-metaphase I, in this species, differs from that in coccids3

Mitotic chiasmata, gene density, and oncogenes

Human Genetics, 1985
Chromosomes with regions rich in mitotic chiasmata in Bloom syndrome (1,3,6,11,12,17,19, and 22) have been compared for various parameters to similar-sized chromosomes 2, 4, 7, 10, 9, 18, 20, and 21 with the following results: (1) The number of genes localized on the test chromosomes is significantly higher (248) than that in the control chromosomes ...
