A defensive symbiont and a plant virus confer direct and discrete phenotypes to a cereal aphid in a context‐dependent manner

Different BYDV‐PAV isolates exert contrasting effects on aphid fitness, including reproduction and winged production. Different BYDV‐PAV isolates have contrasting effects on aphid dispersal patterns. Aphid feeding behaviour is modulated by the presence of endosymbionts and plant viruses.

Inducible tomato defences persist in detached leaves, despite differential plant variety and gene‐dependent expression

Short‐ and long‐term expression of PPO‐D, PI‐IIc and PR‐1a were assessed in intact plants and detached tomato leaves of two varieties infested with Tetranhycus urticae. Tomato defences were induced in both intact and detached leaves, but the induction levels varied with plant variety and gene assessed.

Persistence without prosperity at the upper range margin: Elevation, microhabitat buffering and biotic pressure in a range‐expanding spider

Anthropogenic linear features facilitate high‐elevation colonization. Parasitoid pressure declines markedly with elevation. Cocoon damage increases despite reduced parasitism at high elevation. Astrocytic connexin43 phosphorylation contributes to seizure susceptibility after mild traumatic brain injury

Astrocytic gap junctions formed by connexin43 (Cx43) help maintain brain homeostasis. After mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), total cortical Cx43 increases and redistributes toward a soluble, non‐junctional pool with elevated hemichannel activity and increased phosphorylation at serine 368 (pCx43S368).
